On April 17, 1988, 71 men from the petitioning local (now called colonies) of Sigma Chi Iota fulfilled their journey and were installed as the newest chapter of the Sigma Chi International Fraternity. The Iota Zeta Chapter at Clarkson University became a leader, not only on campus, but among other Sigma Chi chapters.
On the weekend of April 19-21, over 160 alumni and undergraduate Brothers met to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our great chapter. The weekend included the annual Sigma Chi Pig Roast, a banquet on the evening of the 20th, and most importantly, the dedication of our new Chapter House. Working in conjunction with Clarkson University and its vision to create 'Themed Housing' units (open to clubs and Greek life chapters), Sigma Chi was the first such house to be dedicated on campus. The results are shown above - a magnificent home for our Chapter for years to come. While the finish work is not quite complete, we were treated to a tour of of the house, and I (and I am sure many others) wish we could re-enroll as undergrads to take advantage of this amazing new house.
So many people and so much hard work has been dedicated to making this a reality from both the university and our alumni association. In the past 25 years, we have worked hard to raise money, look for land and construction opportunities, and have even purchased a couple of investment properties in Potsdam. All of these have been valuable steps forward toward the realization of the goal now realized.
I have made it back to my alma mater every year since graduation. Now it is going to be even more special to return and visit the house we all worked for. I encourage all alumni to join me, especially those who haven't been back for a while. Come to see the new house, the improvements to the Clarkson campus, but most of all, to get to know the undergrads who are the living embodiment of the Chapter we all had a part of so many years ago. It is always worth the trip!
